Mapelastic Smart is a two-component mortar, based on cementitious binders, selected fine-grained aggregates, special additives and synthetic polymers in aqueous dispersion, according to a formula developed in MAPEI's research laboratories.
By mixing the two components, a mortar of plastic consistency is obtained that is easily applied with a brush, roller, and even by spraying with a plastering machine equipped with a lance, either on vertical surfaces or on horizontal supports, in a thickness of about 2 mm. Its high content of synthetic resins and its quality give Mapelastic Smart high elasticity, which remains unchanged in all environmental conditions.
CHARACTERISTICS
- Mapelastic Smart is completely impermeable to water, up to a positive pressure of 1.5 atmospheres, and to the penetration of aggressive substances present in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and sulfuric anhydride, and soluble salts such as chlorides and sulfates present in seawater or soil
- Mapelastic Smart also has excellent adhesion on all cementitious, ceramic and marble surfaces, as long as they are solid and clean. These properties make structures protected and waterproofed with Mapelastic Smart durable, even in particularly harsh climates, in coastal areas rich in salinity or in industrial areas, where the air is especially polluted.
- Mapelastic Smart complies with the principles established by EN 1504-9 (“Products and systems for the repair and protection of concrete structures: definitions, requirements, quality control and conformity assessment. General principles for the use of products and systems”) and with the minimum requirements established by EN 1504-2 coating (C) according to the PI, MC and IR principles (“Concrete surface protection systems”)
TO IMPORTANT NOTICES
- Do not apply Mapelastic Smart with a temperature below +8° C
- Do not add cement, aggregates or water to Mapelastic Smart
- Protect from rain or accidental water leaks in the first 24 hours after application.
- When Mapelastic Smart is used as an uncoated waterproofing membrane, on terraces or large roofs, it is advisable to provide vapor vents, appropriately placed depending on the humidity present in the support (indicatively every 20-25 m²). This precaution is essential when the installation of Mapelastic Smart is carried out on particularly absorbent supports that retain moisture, such as screeds lightened with polystyrene or expanded clay.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION
Mapelastic Smart is used to protect new or repaired concrete structures with special mortars belonging to the Mapegrout or Planitop lines, microcracked plasters and, in general, cementitious surfaces that, because they are subject to vibrations, can crack, and for the protection waterproofing of balconies and terraces and hydraulic works such as canals and walls of dams, swimming pools, tanks and cisterns. Particularly suitable for waterproofing irregular surfaces.

- Waterproofing of hydraulic channels, walls of dams and tanks
- Waterproofing of bathrooms, showers, balconies, terraces, swimming pools, etc., before installing ceramic coatings
- Waterproofing of plasterboard surfaces, cementitious plasters, lightweight concrete blocks and marine plywood
- Elastic protection of concrete structures, new or repaired, subject to small deformations under load
- Protection, against the penetration of water and aggressive agents present in the atmosphere, of cementitious plasters or concrete that present shrinkage cracks or small movements due to thermal variations or dynamic stresses caused by vehicle traffic.
- Protection, against the penetration of carbon dioxide, of piles and concrete panels in road and railway viaducts repaired with products from the Mapegrout or Planitop line
- Protection, against the penetration of aggressive agents, of structures that have an inadequate coating thickness
- Protection of concrete surfaces that may come into contact with seawater, deicing salts, such as sodium and calcium chloride, and sulphate salts
CONSUMPTION
Application by brush or roller:
- Approx. 1.6 kg/m² per mm of thickness.
Application by projection:
- Approx. 2.2 kg/m² per mm of thickness.
