Retractable fall arrest device
A retractable lifeline is a piece of personal protective equipment (PPE) designed to arrest a fall from a height and limit the distance a worker falls. It is a fall arrest system used in jobs where there is a risk of falling from a height, such as in construction, industry, and maintenance.
How does a retractable lifeline work?
A self-propelled lifeline consists of a main body anchored to a fixed structure, a steel or Kevlar cable, and a hook that connects to the worker's harness. As the worker moves, the cable automatically unwinds, allowing a certain range of motion. However, if the worker falls, the self-propelled lifeline's braking mechanism activates, stopping the fall in an abrupt but controlled manner.
Advantages of using a retractable fall arrester
- Greater freedom of movement: Compared to other fall arrest systems, retractable lifelines offer greater freedom of movement to the worker.
- Easy installation: Retractable blinds are relatively easy to install and use.
- Versatility: They can be used in a wide variety of applications.
- Safety: Retractable lifelines are one of the safest ways to protect workers at height.
Fall arrest rope
A fall arrest lanyard is a personal protective equipment (PPE) specifically designed for working at height. Its primary function is to arrest a fall and limit the distance a worker can fall in the event of an accident.
How does a lifeline work?
A fall arrest lanyard is typically made of highly resistant materials such as polyamide or Kevlar. One end of the lanyard is anchored to a secure fixed point, and the other end is connected to the worker's harness. In the event of a fall, the lanyard tightens and absorbs the impact energy, preventing the worker from hitting the ground.
Types of fall arrest ropes:
- Static fall arrest rope: Designed to withstand static loads and be used in lifeline systems.
- Dynamic fall arrest lanyard: Designed to absorb the energy of a fall, used in personal fall arrest systems.
Anchor rope
An anchor rope is a fundamental element in fall protection systems. It acts as the fixed point to which other components, such as ascent and descent systems, or the fall arrest systems themselves, are connected. Its main function is to provide a safe and reliable anchor for the worker at height.
